I’m Xander, 15 years old, born and raised at Indicators in Raglan, New Zealand. Surfing is my life – I was introduced to it at a young age by my dad, Mikey Banks, who’s been a massive influence on my journey. I love doing comps and spending every day in the water with my mates.

PLANS FOR 2025

I’d love to head over to the Gold Coast – I’ve never been to Australia before. This winter I’m planning a trip to stay with some mates and compete in a few Aussie comps. Back home this summer, I’ll be doing more comps and chasing good waves.

THE MAD HUEYS Q & A

1. Most Memorable Surf:
Raglan Bar about a month ago – the banks were perfect. I went out on the ski with local surfer Ben Kneebone. We paddled into a few barrelling right-handers and then switched to step-offs. Ben stepped me into a big, square one – long, hollow and perfect – easily one of the best waves of my life. Straight after, he picked me up and launched me into another that spat me out right in front of him. We were absolutely frothing.

2. Most Memorable Fish Caught:
I’ve only been fishing once – didn’t catch anything! It was with Simon and Luca Thompson. But I’ve been diving for crayfish and pāua, which was epic.

3. Most Memorable Party (Celebration):
The Single Fin afterparty was a good night – I was stoked to get second, just behind Luke Hughes.
